The Port of Lisbon set a new record for cruise passengers with the “best July ever.” Last month, a total of 58,141 passengers were recorded, a 6% increase compared to the previous record of 2023, which had 54,992.
In a statement, the Port of Lisbon attributed this “historic milestone” to the “remarkable” 35% growth in transit cruise passengers, rising from 39,245 in 2023 to 52,797 tourists this year.
“These results are the outcome of a higher number of transit calls and an increase in the average capacity of ships that docked in Lisbon during July,” noted the Port of Lisbon. In July, there were 20 cruise ship calls, reflecting a 5% increase compared to the 19 calls during the same period in 2023.
According to the Port of Lisbon, “this achievement highlights the trust cruise companies have in Lisbon’s ability to accommodate larger vessels, as evidenced by the 15 calls made by ships with a capacity exceeding two thousand passengers.”
Carlos Correia, president of APL, stated that “this record not only shows the growing appeal of Lisbon as a cruise destination, but also our commitment to continue investing in the improvement of the port’s infrastructure and services, promoting sustainable and high-quality tourism.”
July also saw the first call of the cruise ship ILMA, described as “the latest and most innovative ultra-luxury cruise ship of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.”
